How to Choose a BESS Supplier for Large-Scale C&I Storage Projects: Following a Project From Design to Operation With MPMC

Oct 28, 2026

Large-scale commercial and industrial storage projects, from one megawatt-hour to ten or more, test a supplier at every stage: system design, engineering, manufacturing, shipping, commissioning and years of daily operation. The best way to choose a supplier is to follow the project through each of these stages and see how the supplier performs. Here is how MPMC delivers a large-scale HBD-A project from first design to long-term operation.

Stage 1: System Design Around the Site

MPMC's engineers start with the site's load profile, tariff structure, solar generation and any on-site generators, then select models and control strategy together. The HBD-A range runs from 125 kW / 261 kWh to 1,125 kW / 2,170 kWh per unit, with the HBD-250-1000 offering around four hours of storage at rated power and DC-coupled HBD-DC 410 and HBD-DC 5000 models for solar-plus-storage plants. The EMS supports PQ, VF, VSG, black start and grid-forming modes for peak shaving, frequency regulation and load balancing.

Design also covers the physical layout: containerised units are positioned for cable runs, access and future expansion, since HBD-A power and capacity are expandable as the site's needs grow.

Stage 2: Engineering and Manufacturing

Architecture Built for Scale

Large units are engineered for high capacity and redundancy. The HBD-1000-2000A delivered to Europe uses a dual-PCS parallel architecture, 45 CATL 1P52S battery packs and nine high-voltage cabinets per unit, with cluster voltages up to 1,331.2 Vdc on HV models and EPCS power conversion modules across the series.

Liquid cooling on every HBD-A model holds cells at stable temperatures, IP67 battery packs sit within an IP54 system, and units operate from -20°C to +55°C and up to 3,000 m altitude.

Automated Production in Yangzhong

MPMC Energy Tech in Yangzhong, opened in 2025 with USD 27 million of investment, a 19,000 m² workshop and a 3,300 m² R&D centre, builds containerised battery storage systems and battery pack modules on semi-automatic and fully automatic pack lines and fully automatic BESS assembly lines, located in an industrial base for switchgear, busbars and cable trays.

Stage 3: Safety, Shipping and Commissioning

Safety is layered through the system: CE-certified aerosol suppression in every pack, smoke, temperature and humidity alarms, and BMS-EMS linkage with automatic power cut and remote alarm. Containerised units ship by sea in standard formats with UN38.3 battery transport certification, and MPMC dispatches service engineers for on-site commissioning and field support on complex deployments.

The full-weld 20HQ enclosure with reinforced lifting points, C4 anti-corrosion coating, ceramic-based aerogel insulation and IP55 protection used on the European 8 MWh project is designed for long outdoor service in varied climates.

Stage 4: Years of Reliable Operation

Once running, MPMC's self-developed SCADA provides real-time monitoring and control, alarm management, maintenance work orders with spare-parts tracking and automated monthly and annual reports, with ten years of data stored on an SL3-level cybersecurity framework. LFP 314Ah cells rated for 8,000 cycles at 90% depth of discharge support daily cycling, backed by a 5-year product warranty or 2.2 MWh per kWh and a 10-year battery performance warranty or 4.3 MWh per kWh with at least 70% capacity retention.
