A 100 kWh battery energy storage system can do two valuable jobs at once: keep critical loads running during a supply interruption, and cut the peak demand that drives up electricity bills. The key is managing how the battery's energy is shared between the two. How One Battery Does Two Jobs

A Backup Reserve That Is Always There

The EMS keeps a reserve of stored energy set aside for backup. When the grid supply is interrupted, the system switches to off-grid operation and supplies critical loads such as refrigeration, lighting, IT and security from that reserve. The HBD-E handles 150% overload for 10 seconds, so motor and compressor starts are covered.

Peak Shaving From the Rest of the Capacity

The remaining capacity works every day. The EMS charges the battery during off-peak hours and discharges during peak demand, lowering the maximum kW billed by the utility. With rooftop PV connected directly, the battery also stores surplus midday solar for evening peaks.

Setting the Balance

Each site chooses the balance between reserve and peak shaving. A clinic with sensitive equipment may hold a larger reserve; a shop with a sharp evening peak may dedicate more capacity to shaving. Remote control by app or PC over 4G, 5G or WiFi lets the operator adjust the settings as needs change.

As an illustration, a site that keeps 40% of the 100.4 kWh as reserve still has around 60 kWh available each day for peak shaving and solar shifting, while the reserve alone can carry a 10 kW critical load for about four hours.

Choosing the Power Level

All three models store 100.4 kWh; the difference is power. The HBD-30-100 suits sites with a moderate peak and a smaller solar array, the HBD-40-100 a medium peak, and the HBD-50-100 sites with higher peaks or up to 100 kWp of PV. Larger sites can step up to the HBD-125-260 with 261.2 kWh, while mobile applications can use the HBD-R HBD-50-100 with 112.5 kWh.

Built for Daily Cycling and Long Life

HBD-E systems use LFP cells rated for 6,000 cycles at 90% depth of discharge, carry CE and CEC certification and IP54 protection, and include aerosol fire suppression and anti-electric-shock protection as standard. An open ESS Link protocol supports integration with custom EMS platforms, and ten units of the HBD-30-100 to HBD-50-100 fit in a 20-foot container for efficient shipping. HBD-E systems carry a 5-year product warranty or 2.2 MWh per kWh and a 10-year battery performance warranty or 4.3 MWh per kWh, with at least 70% capacity retention.

MPMC supports installers and end users with remote diagnostics through its SCADA/EMS cloud platform, APP/Web monitoring and on-site commissioning for complex deployments.
