Which Hybrid Energy Solution Can Reduce Diesel Use in Off-Grid Industrial Operations? Five MPMC Configurations by Industry

Oct 29, 2026

Off-grid industrial operations, from oil and gas fields to batching plants, mines and remote processing sites, have traditionally run on diesel generators alone. Hybrid energy systems keep the reliability of on-site generation while cutting diesel use through battery storage, solar energy, intelligent control and cleaner fuels. MPMC designs and manufactures every layer of these systems and tailors the configuration to each industry's load pattern.

Five Industry Configurations

1. Oil and Gas Fields: Battery as Genset Mate

Integrated in parallel with existing gensets, HBD-R storage performs peak shaving, absorbs transient loads and enables selective generator shutdown during low demand, reducing fuel use and NOx and CO2 output. At a Chinese oil and gas field, six HBD-A sets of 500 kW / 250 kWh form a 3 MW wellhead peak-shaving storage plant.

For larger fields, MPMC also builds high-voltage island-mode generation with N+X redundancy, so storage and generation can be designed together from the outset.

2. Concrete Batching and Process Plants: Phased EMS Control

At ten off-grid batching stations in Dubai, each HBD-500-1000 works with three 500 kVA gensets under a three-phase EMS, saving 92,757 litres of fuel per station each year and reducing OPEX by about 20%.

The battery discharges while one genset runs at its optimal 75% load, gensets run in parallel to recharge the battery at up to 500 kW, and all sources stand in mutual redundancy, supporting 24/7 operation at 45-50°C.

3. Mining: Right-Sized Gensets With Mobile Storage

Containerised gensets paired with HBD-R storage run at around 75% load while the battery handles crusher and pump surges, and HBL-600D-M hybrid light towers run for up to 53 hours on battery alone before their diesel generator is needed.

MPMC product data associates this pairing with fuel savings of up to 75%, and GSB hybrid stations with slide-out solar supply camps, offices and monitoring systems with the genset starting automatically as demand requires.

4. Remote Industrial Microgrids: Solar-First Supply

In Kenya, four MPMC sites each combine 1 MW of PV, at least 1 MWh of DC-coupled storage and diesel gensets of 2 x 500 kW and 2 x 250 kW. Weather-driven EMS dispatch keeps diesel runtime low while delivering stable 24/7 power with seamless solar-diesel switching.

5. Cleaner-Fuel Hybrids: Methanol and Biodiesel

MPMC's methanol distributed power station, rated 400 kVA / 280 kW with a DEIF AGC150 controller and 75 dB(A) at 1 m, offers lower emissions and safe fuel storage, and combines with storage or BCH mobile chargers for off-grid green power. Biodiesel at B35 and above, proven on MPMC's 18 MW plant in Indonesia, lowers lifecycle CO2 by up to 85% compared with petroleum diesel.

Diesel replaced by lower-carbon fuel

One Control Platform Across Every Layer

MPMC's self-developed EMS uses multi-source data and weather forecasting to maximise solar generation and schedule batteries and gensets, while the SCADA platform provides real-time monitoring, maintenance work orders, automated reports, ten years of data retention, an SL3-level cybersecurity framework and Starlink satellite backup communication for sites far from networks.

This lets operators of several remote sites see fuel use, battery state and solar output across their whole operation, and plan deliveries and maintenance around actual running hours.
