How a Chinese-Based EV Charging Solution Supplier Unlocks Fast Charging in Weak-Grid Markets

Nov 06, 2026

Electric vehicles are arriving in markets where the electricity network is still catching up: growing cities with constrained distribution grids, rural regions, islands and fast-developing economies where supply varies through the day. In these grid-constrained markets, a charger that depends entirely on a strong grid connection is hard to deploy. MPMC, a Chinese manufacturer active in more than 120 countries and territories, offers a different approach with its BCH Series: battery-buffered chargers that deliver fast charging from whatever power is available.

How BCH Units Thrive Where the Grid Is Constrained

Charging Power Above the Connection

Each BCH unit fills its battery steadily and releases the energy at higher power. The BCH-275-200 delivers 150 kW from 80 kW of input, and the BCH-800-600 delivers 600 kW from 280 kW. A connection too small for a conventional fast charger can therefore support high-power charging.

For charge point operators and fleet owners in these markets, this means fast-charging services can open on today's grid rather than waiting for network reinforcement, and the same units can later remain on site as battery buffers that raise the capacity of a permanent connection.

Charging Through Supply Interruptions

Because energy is stored on board, charging continues when the supply dips or pauses, and the BCH-800-600 and BCH-500-1000 also provide UPS-grade AC output to keep site systems running. Where the grid is unavailable, units recharge from generator sets or solar PV.

Configured for Local Markets

Grid-constrained markets differ in vehicles, standards and climate, and BCH units are configured accordingly. CCS2 guns come as standard, with CCS1, GB/T and CHAdeMO available and MCS listed among supported standards. AC inputs accept 380-415 V at 50 Hz or 60 Hz. The larger models operate from -20°C to +50°C and up to 3,000 m, the BCH-80-70 up to 4,000 m, and C5 anti-corrosion coating is available on the BCH-800-600 and BCH-500-1000 for coastal markets.

Every BCH charging model runs an EMS with 4G connectivity and OCPP 1.6, with an open cloud-ready API and optional RFID payment, so operators can manage dispersed sites remotely and bill drivers locally. Integrated SCADA and EMS automate operation, keeping staffing needs low at remote locations.

Solar pairing is particularly valuable in sunny, grid-constrained regions: BCH-275-200 and larger models include a dedicated solar connection, and MPMC's revenue model for the series highlights how pairing BCH with photovoltaics converts zero-cost solar energy into charging revenue.

Where solar is combined with a modest grid or generator set supply, the battery absorbs midday generation and releases it for evening charging peaks, giving operators a dependable daily rhythm of clean energy.

A Supplier With Off-Grid Experience

MPMC's off-grid expertise extends well beyond charging. In Kenya, its four-site hybrid microgrid combines PV, battery storage and diesel generator sets to deliver stable 24/7 power in a grid-fluctuating environment, and its containerised generator sets power off-grid stations across Africa and Asia. BCH units themselves are proven in Norway's off-grid construction charging and at a grid-constrained UK logistics port.

Distributors in new markets can work with MPMC through authorised distribution and agency arrangements, OEM customisation and private-label options, with remote diagnostics and on-site commissioning support from MPMC engineers.
