Temporary EV Fleet Charging Made Simple With a Standalone EV Charging Unit

Nov 04, 2026

Fleet operators often need charging before permanent infrastructure is ready, or more charging than their depot can supply for a few weeks or months. A standalone EV charging unit, one that carries its own battery and needs no permanent installation, bridges these interim periods neatly. MPMC's BCH Series units arrive, connect to whatever supply is available and deliver fast DC charging within 24 hours, then move on when the temporary need is over.

Temporary Charging Scenarios for Fleets

Before the Permanent Connection Arrives

When a depot is waiting for a grid upgrade or new chargers, BCH units let the operator put electric vehicles into service immediately. The BCH-275-200 delivers 150 kW from just 80 kW of input, so a modest temporary supply can still charge a growing fleet.

The larger BCH-600-400 and BCH-500-1000 do the same for electric HGV fleets, delivering 400 kW and 500 kW through two 350 A CCS2 guns while drawing 280 kW and 560 kW respectively.

Seasonal Peaks and Pilot Programmes

Delivery fleets that expand for peak seasons, and operators trialling their first electric vans or trucks, can add charging capacity for exactly the period needed. Rental companies, a core MPMC customer group, buy BCH units to offer this flexibility to their own customers.

Because the units are standalone, the same equipment can be redeployed after the peak to another depot or project, keeping utilisation high across the year.

Depot Moves and Temporary Sites

When a fleet relocates, operates from a temporary base or supports a project site, the charging moves with it. The BCH-275-200 rides on a 3.5-tonne trailer with forklift pockets, and the compact 880 kg BCH-80-70 fits into tight corners of a yard.

Why Standalone Units Work So Well

Each BCH unit is self-contained: battery, power conversion, charging guns and EMS in one enclosure, with no grid reconstruction or on-site wiring. The BCH-275-200's plug-and-play fast output box connects in minutes, and the unit can recharge from a public fast charger through its CCS2 DC input in about one hour, so it keeps working even where site power is available for a few hours a day.

Blade LFP battery packs rated for 6,000 cycles at 90% depth of discharge, sealed liquid cooling and C4 anti-corrosion coating make the units robust enough to move from one temporary assignment to the next year after year.

OCPP 1.6 and an open API connect units to existing fleet software for the duration of the temporary deployment, and optional RFID payment supports shared use. Units also supply AC power for site cabins and tools, from 125 kW on the BCH-275-200 to 500 kW on the BCH-500-1000.

Integrated SCADA and EMS automate operation and provide full remote monitoring and control, so a fleet manager can track charging across several temporary sites from one office.

BCH units are proven in European fleet operation, including eight BCH-275-200 units at a UK logistics port. The BCH-80-70 carries a 1-year or 60 MWh system warranty and a 3-year or 200 MWh battery warranty, and the BCH-275-200 and larger models a 3-year system and 5-year battery performance warranty.
